Today, while we were at the classroom, having a free period, the class bully, James, provoked one of my classmates. His name was John.
“Hey, John! Come here and lick my boots!” James shouted, John ignored him and continue doing his work, while the people behind James giggled. James, looked like he was contented with the attention he was getting, went to John’s desk and smacked his palm on the desk.
John was shocked and stunned for a few seconds before coming back to his senses. James then put his feet on John’s thigh, and then said, “Hey did u hear what I said? Are u deaf? “. I could see John clenching his fist, his eyes reddened. James saw his eye reddening and said out loud to everyone, “Hey look! There’s a cry baby!” Everyone in the class laughed.
John couldn’t tolerate this any longer. He grabbed James by the collar and pushed him to the big cupboard, there, he repeatedly banged James against the cupboard. James did not have the strength to retaliate. The whole class was stunned and did not know what to do. Finally after a few more seconds, John stopped what he was doing and stomped back to his seat, James, who was repeatedly banged against the cupboard, was groaning in pain.
Just then, our form teacher came in, shocked to see James squatting on the floor, both hands on his head. He immediately sent him down for treatment. When he came back, with James behind him with a bandage around his head, he told the class he knew what happened as James has told him after being bandaged. He also told the class that classmate should help one another, and not hate or fight each other. John and James were both punished. James was more severely punished.
I felt a bit ashamed of myself as I did not step out and help John. Instead, I just stood there doing nothing, looking at the situation.
My form teacher’s words struck me deep and hard. His words made me reflected on my actions. Even though I was not the one who provoked and bully John, but allowing this to happen is as good as doing it. I hope that after this incident, my classmates and I will be able to respect and help one another.
